4. HANDMADE BEAUTY PRODUCT REVIEWS
HBN is pleased to welcome Paige Eversole McMahon to our Handmade Beauty Product Review Panel.
Paige is a 45-year old Caucasian woman who operates a home-based public
relations business, McMahon Communications, in Bethesda, Maryland. Paige's philosophy about beauty products
is "anything that takes more than 10 minutes twice a day is excessive." As a result, she likes skin care products
that are easy to use and which leave her skin (normal to moderately dry) looking well cared for. Fortunately for the
handmade toiletries business, she has two stepdaughters, a niece and a slew of friends who love receiving
handmade toiletries as gifts for all occasions! We're listening, Paige!!
The Soap Fairy's Grapefruit & Clary Sage Lotion, 4 oz. ~ $5.95
Reviewed by Paige Eversole McMahon I went to The Soap Fairy's link from HBN's Web site because I love the
Delaware beaches and hope to visit their offices in Lewes, Delaware some day soon. My favorite product so far is the
Grapefruit & Clary Sage Lotion, which is delightful and adds a light citrus scent to my skin without interfering with my
perfume. While the lotion is rich in appearance, it goes on easily, leaving no stickiness behind. Best of all,
it arrived in a plastic squeeze bottle with a secure cap, perfect for packing when I make my trip to the beach! The
Soap Fairy's Ocean Breeze After Shower Balm smells fresh and sweet and has brought my elbows and knees out of
their winter roughness and into the summer, and the Mango Madness Lip Balm has done the same for my lips!

BAMI's Oatmeal Soap, 4 oz. ~ $4.00
Reviewed by Donna Maria
There's no doubt about it ... the choices of handmade soap on the market today makes bath time fun and
interesting. Many manufacturers include among their choice bars a soap or two that is made entirely of olive oil.
These soaps, typically called "Castile," are made from a base of olive oil
only and are thought to be very kind to the skin. My most recent sample
of Castile soap is Oatmeal Soap from BAMI. (The owner took the name from the first initials of her 4 children.) It's a
dense, hard, unscented bar of soap. The lather it produces is not so thick, but it feels nice on the skin. The best
thing about this bar is that it seems to last forever. I've been using it for 2 weeks and its just a bit smaller than the
day I bought it home. For those wanting a basic bar with no bells and whistles, this is a good, safe choice. If you
want something more on the exotic side, you'd probably go for more of BAMI's unusual choices, such as Kush or
Moroccan Red Clay. BAMI also has a line of lotions to match the soaps. We'll review one of those later this
summer. http://members.tripod.com/~BAMI_1.

5. AROMATIC BEAUTY FOOD RECIPE ~ ESTHER'S ANOINTMENT, A LOVERS PERFUME
As a newlywed, I am very excited to have yet another excuse to concoct some luscious body care product to
celebrate a special occasion. And few
occasions are more special that the honeymoon night! So before I tied the
knot last month, I made sure to create a potion that I thought my new hubby would truly enjoy. The one thing I had
to do was be sure I didn't make it too sweet (he hates that!), and make sure I didn't make it so strong that it covered
up my natural scent (he likes that!) So, I created a few blends over the course of the months before my wedding and
put a little of each on my wrists so he could have a bit of a sample. Esther's Anointment was his favorite.
7 drops vanilla absolute
7 drops sandalwood essential oil
4 drops rose alba essential oil
3 drops ylang ylang extra superior essential oil
2 frankincense essential oil
2 drop geranium absolute
1 drop zdravetz essential oil
Combine the oils in a 1/4 ounce bottle of jojoba oil. Allow to mellow for a few weeks before using. This is a perfume
and not a skin care product so it should be used in small quantities on pulse points such as wrists, behind the ears
and knees and between the breasts. Enjoy!!
