2. Handmade Beauty Recipe
Of The Week: Honey Butter Belly Salve
Honey
Butter Belly Salve has been getting a great workout lately now that I'm
7 months pregnant! The belly is huge and so I can't get enough of this
stuff. You can make it in a flash so it's the perfect gift for anyone you
know who might be 6 or more months pregnant -- in August -- in humid
temperatures. UGH! Today's temperature was in the eighties, but the dew
point made it feel close to 100ºF. UGH!

3. Handmade Beauty Trivia
Question: the
winner of last week's contest was Rochelle Ng! Rochelle won a bar of
Lemongrass Soap made by HBN member Leslie's Garden Handcrafted Soaps!
Last
Week's Question: An archeological dig of a Roman temple recently
revealed several artifacts of interest. One of them is a small tin container
which is nearly 2,000 years old. Despite its age, it is remarkably preserved
and so is the substance contained within it. The contents are currently
undergoing analysis so it can be determined whether they might be a perfume,
a skin cream or face paint. The tin was so well made and preserved that the
substance inside still bears the finger marks of a person who used it all
those years ago!
Last Week's Answer: The Museum of London
This Week's Question: The trivia guru is taking a break this
week. Stay tuned next week for a fantastic new challenge and a wonderful new
prize!
Please read the contest rules here
before submitting your entry. Put "TRIVIA CONTEST ANSWER" in the subject line or your answer will
not be considered.
While time does not permit me to respond personally to all entrants, the
winner will be notified by email and their name posted at HBN's home page.
4. Handmade Beauty Product
Review by Donna
Maria: German Chamomile Double Solar-Infused Oil
German Chamomile Double Solar-Infused Oil by Scent
of Balance
4 oz. | $22.50
As you know, this column is usually reserved for features on finished
handmade beauty products. But every now and then, I have the opportunity to
sample a wonderful raw material that I like to share with you. This time, it's a
hand-harvested aromatic treat!!
HBN member Kate Rosetto, owner of Scents of Balance, grows and harvest herbs throughout
the summer. I am kicking myself that it took me so long to experience one of her
infusions myself! This year, fresh (not dried -- and this makes a difference!)
German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) has been solar infused into a base
of organic safflower oil to create this lovely German
Chamomile Double Solar-Infused Oil.
The aroma is scrumptious and it makes a perfectly wonderful face, body and
massage oil all by itself. I have enjoyed massaging it into my daughter's skin.
She sniffs it and approves with a smile and a request for "mo peas"
(more please). (It's so cute -- but I digress ...)
Montana must be truly lovely to yield fresh chamomile flowers that infuse
this divinely in the sunshine.
German
Chamomile Double Solar-Infused Oil is
a one-of-a-kind limited edition!! After this is gone, there's no more until next
year. I guess I'd better make it last. On the other hand, what I don't smooth
all over my daughter's dewy soft skin, I will be tempted to include in a few
goodies made for some special friends over the next few months.
You can purchase German
Chamomile Double Solar-Infused Oil at Scents
of Balance.
