3. Handmade Beauty
Trivia
Question: the winner of last week's
contest was Ro Peluso of Trenton, New Jersey. Ro won an
assortment of HBN member Aquarius Aromatherapy & Soap gifts, plus a gift
certificate!
Last Week's
Question: I am an herb with skin soothing properties. Some people
mix me up with a food item with which I share the same common name, but
except for the name, we are nothing alike. I am not native to North America,
yet I am here, and Native Americans have known me as the "white man's
footsteps" since they believed that my presence indicated that
"the white man" had been in the vicinity. When infused in an oil
base, I make a wonderfully soothing green skin oil. What am I?
Last Week's Answer: plantain (Plantago major)
This Week's Question: Ounce for ounce, I have more antioxidant
power than green tea. I have a sweet and soft flavor and some say I smell a
bit like flowers. I am primarily produced in the Fujian
province in China and another name for me is "silver needles."
Picked during the springtime, approximately 80,000 of my shoots are needed
to produce just one pound of me for human consumption. I have recently
started to appear in beauty products and, like
any other antioxidant containing naturally occurring plant, I am believed to
be good for the skin. Be
the first to correctly state what I am and win some fragrance oil
samples, including Green Tweed, Sandalwood Musk and Sweetgrass!
Please read the contest rules here
before submitting your entry. Put "TRIVIA CONTEST ANSWER" in the subject line or your answer will
not be considered.
While time does not permit me to respond personally to all entrants, the
winner's name will announced in the next newsletter!

Handmade Beauty Product Review: Sweet Sugar Scrub by HBN Member
Sugar Coat It
Sweet Sugar Scrub
16 oz. | $20.00
Sweet Sugar Scrub
is a deliciously sweet
combination that your skin will love. A generous 16 ounce jar will last quite a
long time and the combination of ingredients is a smooth mixture with just
enough granular sugar to exfoliate the skin without being rough. To soften the
sugar edges, Sugar Coat It has added a nice blend of butters and oils, including
shea butter, cocoa butter, Vitamin E and sweet almond oil. The combination
results in a product that is smooth and moisturizing without being greasy. It
feels "buttery," even "fluffy" on the skin, but without a
greasy feel going on or afterward. In sum, to me, it feels like a cream with
sugar in it. The tangy sweet aroma comes from a bunch of citrus essential oils
like grapefruit, orange and tangerine. Yummy!
Starting now, this is my
sugar scrub of choice and definitely makes one of my Top 10
goodies for my Gift Buying Guide this year. (By the way, stay tuned for the rest
of the Top 10 in the Gift Buying Guide later this month!!) A few
of my dearest handmade beauty buff friends will see this under the tree this
year!
You can get your own Sweet Sugar Scrub
and polish your skin to an incredibly sweet and smooth finish by contacting
Laura at info@sugarcoatit.com, or
