3. Beauty & The Business Trivia
Question: the
winner of last week's contest was
Cheryl Tom of Quebec, Canada. Cheryl won a sample of a lovely
perfume blend I made with the oil that was the answer to last week's
question!
Last
Week's Question: I
don't have much time these days to sample new aromatics, but recently, I
sniffed an aroma I'll not soon forget. If you didn't know that you could
distill a beautiful aromatic oil from an alcoholic beverage, now you will!
This oil is known as Weinhefeoel and results from the distillation of
brandy. Very intense and rich, it blends well with other intense aromas like
ylang ylang, osmanthus and tobacco. Use often as a base note in men's
colognes, it's "deep fruit" aroma is unforgettable. What is it?
Last Week's Answer:
cognac oil (or wine lees oil)
This Week's Question: Carol's Daughter was named by its owner
Lisa Price in honor of Lisa's mother. To win this week, provide this
information about Lisa's mother: (1) her full name; (2) her date of birth;
and (3) the first names of her grandchildren (Lisa's children). Be the first to correctly answer this week's question and win an
autographed copy of Lisa's newly published book, "Success Never Smelled
So Sweet"!
Please read the contest rules here
before submitting your entry. Put "TRIVIA CONTEST ANSWER" in the
subject line or your answer will not be considered.
While time does not permit me to respond personally to all entrants,
the winner's name will be announced in the next newsletter!
4. The Lifestyle
CEO*™: Put Up Or
Shut Up!
\Life.Style
CEO\n. A person who owns and manages a business, not
solely for financial gain, but also to enjoy the personal rewards of
entrepreneurship, independence, flexibility and fun.
There are few things more frustrating than hearing
someone repeatedly complain about some sad state of affairs in their life,
and then fail to do anything about it. This obviously only perpetuates
their sad state of affairs, and it can also make everyone around them
NUTS! Several years ago, I was acquainted with Suzanne (not her real
name), a wife and mother of a son. Suzanne was a really fun person to be
around, except when she was talking about her husband. When she was, she
complained and complained about his bad habits, difficult disposition and
mostly, the way he fathered their son. He never did anything right. It
always seemed to me that he was trying really hard, but could never get
past her criticism -- but that was just how it looked to me. The bottom
line is that Suzanne claimed to be miserable with him, yet she never took
a single step toward exorcising her demons and changing her situation for
the better. She never went to counseling (with
or without her husband), she never considered seeking a divorce and she
never even tried to have so much as a constructive conversation with him
about what upset her so thoroughly. She simply complained.
Of course no one knows whether counseling, divorce or
constructive conversations with her husband would have made Suzanne's life any
better? Maybe so. Maybe not. In fact, any one of those options
could have made her situation considerably worse depending on various circumstances.
But the upshot of Suzanne's life as a wife is that she talked and talked
about her demons, yet she never took a single step to exorcise them. In
sum, Suzanne never Put Up Or Shut Up.
In business, we can be the same way. We can spend
hours on end chatting with friends and fellow business owners about how
frustrated we are with the way business is going. We get tons of hits to
our website, but no one buys anything. We are trying to recruit people to
sell our products at home parties, but no one is participating. Family
friends buy products one time, but never return for repeat sales. Yet when
people give us suggestions and constructive criticism, we don't accept it.
Instead, we simply look for another person to listen to us
"vent," and complain. We feel better after the gripe session,
but our pity party ultimately gets us nowhere. We must Put Up Or Shut Up!
We must take the bull by
the horns, get to the heart of what is obstructing our progress,
exorcise our demons and TAKE ACTION to improve things!!
No one said business (or life!) was easy. But in
business (as in life), we have to take the good with the bad, the easy
with the difficult. And if the difficult is unbearable, we must resist the
temptation to simply complain about
it and stop there. Exorcise The Demons! Put Up Or Shut Up!
We must jar ourselves from that place of complacency and be about the
business of happening to life!! Take ACTION!!
If we take action, there are
no guarantees. But one thing is for sure. If we
do nothing, we'll get nothing. And no one wants to end up with that.
