Things Happen To Your Good Name)
Thursday, October 28
(90 minutes)
11:00am Pacific; 12:00noon Mountain; 1:00pm Central; 2:00pm Eastern
Trademarking and branding are two of
the most significant tools used to characterize the public perception of
your personality and abilities, as well as of the products you sell. What do
you want people to think about when they hear your business name or see your
products? Of course you want them to think positively, and this telenar will
show you how to do that. Plus you'll learn how to register your own
trademark and minimize the chances that anyone else could "steal"
your good name! To register
for this essential class, click here!
4. Beauty & The Business Trivia
Question: last week's
winner was Carol Schatz of Birmingham, Alabama. Carol
won some colorful mica to make some lovely goodies of her own!
Last
Week's Question: Last
week, it was announced that Richard Axel and Linda Buck share the Nobel
Peace Price for Physiology or Medicine, awarded by the Norwegian Nobel
Committee. The pair won the prize for for their discoveries of odorant
receptors and the organization of the olfactory system. Specifically, their
research showed that, in mammals, more than half of the 900 genes devoted to
detecting odors have mutated to the point of uselessness during the course
of evolution, evidence that people have gradually come to rely more on
vision and hearing than on smells. Their research also showed that in each
person, an astonishingly high percentage, 5%, of these are
devoted entirely to the sense of smell. What are these?
Last Week's Answer:
genes
This Week's Question: I was brought to Europe in the 17th
century by Spanish explorers from South America. My oil is used to flavor
foods and make perfume. When dried, my leaves make a wonderful tea that is
soothing and relaxing. I'm also known as Herb Louisa, limonetto or lemon
beebrush. What is my common name? To win this week, be the first to
respond with the common name of the plant described above and win a tube of
Ginger Ayurvedic Lip Therapy! Please read the contest rules here
before submitting your entry. Put "TRIVIA CONTEST ANSWER" in the
subject line or your answer will not be considered. While time does not permit me to respond
personally to all entrants, the winner's name will be announced in the next
newsletter!

Handmade Beauty Product Review:
Essencia -- I'm Lovin' It!
Essencia
-- I'm Lovin' It!
Gentleman's Basket | $29.50
It's so hard to find toiletries gifts for men! So few things seem to be
created for them from start to finish. Instead, it seems like
manufacturers frequently take a product designed for women and put it in a
"manly" package, add a dollup of sandalwood and stock it on the
shelf. It's often a waste of time and men don't like it much. Thankfully,
many companies are starting to see the wisdom of creating products that
men can really enjoy, and one such company is HBN member Essencia.
I had the opportunity to buy their Gentlemen's Basket for my brother.
As you can see from the product photo, the basket definitely has masculine
appeal and the products -- according to my brother -- were heavenly.
His favorite was the White Chocolate with
Almonds soap. Made with jojoba oil and cocoa butter, plus a
subtle hint of chocolate scent, this bar provides natural exfoliation. My
brother always loved my Vanilla Butter Bars when I was making soap to sell
(or give to him as was usually the case!) and this bar prompted him to ask
me to go back into the soapmaking business. (It's tempting, but with so
many members making such a great products, I think I'll just "buy and
try!)
My brother also loves the Lavender Mint
Shaving Syrup. It's the perfect way to gently shave anything.
When I spent a weekend at his home a few weeks ago, I used some myself to
shave my legs and it was great! It's got a fresh lavender/mint aroma that
provides as soft and fluffy medium between the razor and my skin so the
shave is smooth and easy. It contains vegetable glycerin, coconut oil and
castor oil to soothe the skin as well. Finally, the Sandalwood
Moisture Therapy is an SPF15 lotion made with pure essential
oils of sandalwood and lime, plus vanilla bourbon for scent. "Manly
yes, but I like it too!" It's a smoothing emulsion made with aloe,
mango butter, glycerin and a host of other goodies to treat any skin type. As
the holidays approach, you simply MUST check out the Essencia
product line! They make beautiful gift baskets that make gift giving easy
and fun -- plus as the giver, you get to look like a hero while someone
else has done all the work! Other products I have used and love include
Honey Mint Lip Balm (confiscated by my daughter), Rosewater Body Milk (a
gift to my mom) and Bum Balm (which has worked wonders on my 1-year old
son's bottom sensitive bottom.)
