4. Beauty & The Business Trivia Question
: There was no winner from last week, so let's try again!

Last Week's Question: I was born in Los Angeles. Neglected and abused as a child, I nearly ended up in a home for mentally retarded children when I did not utter a word or sound, even as I turned 4 years old. I barely reacted to any stimulation. I was eventually adopted and did not speak a word for several weeks after arriving at my adoptive family home. When I did finally speak, it was in full and complete sentences. As a student, I was unfocused and distracted. Teachers gave up on me, but with love and attention provided by my new family, I eventually began to excel. I graduated magna cum laude from Yale College with a degree in political science, then earned a juris doctorate and master's degree from Harvard University. Today, I am a leader in one of the country's largest and most densely populated cities. Who am I?

Be the first to answer and win a bar of soap made by HBN member Alabu Soap! (See my review of Alabu Soaps in this issue!) Please read the contest rules here before submitting your entry. Put "TRIVIA CONTEST ANSWER" in the subject line or your answer will not be considered.

While time does not permit me to respond personally to all entrants, the winner's name will be announced in the next newsletter!

7. Handmade Beauty Product Review: Soaps by HBN Member Burgundy Soaps

Handmade Soaps by Burgundy Soaps
$4.97 per 4 ounce bar

Soap -- pretty much just soap! That's what you'll find at Burgundy Soaps. And Burgundy (the owner's name too) does soap very well. Burgundy Soaps do not contain any soybean oil or animal fats. They are made with olive, palm and coconut oils plus whatever goodies complement the theme of a particular bar. Each bar is encased in a nice grade of colorful handmade paper with neat labels on the front and back. I tried several and these are my favorites.

Sunday Morning: my favorite Burgundy Soap! This one is so great for those long winter baths! This bar smells like comfort -- oats, milk and honey. Warm and satisfying.

Bon Voyage: a really pretty swirl of light blue with a fresh ocean rain scent and sea kelp granules.

Dignified: This soap forms a union of three types of roses: red, pink and white. Each with their own distinct floral note, combined with a blend of juniper, sage, and a quick squeeze of lemon, "Dignified" has an air of divinity and royalty surpassed only by the Queen of England herself.

Burgundy has great soap, but there's more to Burgundy than just soap. She also has a monthly newsletter with tips and beauty secrets from around the world. A recent issue told me more about pomegranates (did you know they originated in Italy?) that I ever wanted to know and included a recipe for tossing them with some chicken pieces, almonds, greens and apples for a tasty salad.

You can find all of these soaps at Burgundy's website -- plus Fantastic Foot Whip which is "back by popular demand." Alas! I didn't get a chance to try that product so it's on my list for next time. You'll also want to check out Burgundy's innovative Build-A-Bar page where you can assemble the ingredients for your own personalized soap!
