I'm so sorry! I just can't help it! They're so cute, and anytime I can
figure out a way to squeeze in a shameless photo of them, I'll do it. This
month, my shame knows no bounds with this picture of my kids and their
cheeks -- inherited from Yours Truly. They blew out all the candles on the
first try! For you HBN members (and anyone else!) celebrating this month, I
hope you have happy days and the joy of loved ones around you to make it
even more special. Happy Birthday Everyone!

5. Handmade Beauty Product Review: Manuka Honey Drizzle
Manuka Honey
Drizzle
16 oz. | $28.00
It's all about the bath, don't you think? Sure we can shower and we can
have a little wash off at the sink sometimes. But nothing beats the power of
a bath to slow us down and help us reconnect with a part of ourselves that
is peaceful and serene. And while bathing, a girl can never have enough
treats and this week, I'm here to tell you about a really fun and unique
one: Manuka Honey Drizzle.
Not only do I like to say the name -- c'mon, repeat "Manuka
Honey Drizzle, Manuka Honey Drizzle."
Doesn't that sound
fabulous? Manuka honey is produced by bees that pollinate the
manuka bush which is native to New Zealand. Some say it has restorative and
antibacterial properties. Whether or not it's true doesn't matter because
just saying the name "manuka honey" makes me feel better. At Bella
Luccè, Lela Barker mixes the manuka honey with other goodies like vegetable
glycerin, jojoba oil, organic clover honey, citrus essential oils and fruit extracts to make revive and refresh the skin
in the bath. It comes with a "drizzler," but I just scoop it out
into the tub with my bare hands and let me tell you, that's the most fun way
to get at this stuff. When I put my hand in, I don't want to take it out.
I'm sure I'm getting a serious cuticle softening manicure. So instead of a
drizzle, I get a downright hail storm of deliciousness. I have a pretty
big tub and I guess you could say I'm handmade beauty product greedy because
I dumped about half of it in at one time. During my soak, I washed my face
and then covered my face with it for a wonderful facial. I then covered my
hands with it and just massaged them with my eyes closed. Hmmm, too bad it
had to end when the water got cold.
Anyway, if you're looking for a special treat -- a really
rare find -- try this stuff. You can get it at the Bella
Luccè website, or better yet, tune in to Home Shopping Network on
November 18 and 19 when Lela Barker herself will be there to sell Manuka
Honey Drizzle
and all the other goodies in the Bella Lucce line.
To find out if you get Nthe Shop At Home network,

on the "what's on TV now" button and enter your zip code in the
"channel finder" box.
I'll be tuning in!
6. Feature Article: The Bath: A Self-Affirming Soul Treat
by Annette Esterheld
Day to day living has its stresses and tensions, and when you add the fast approaching holiday
season to the mix, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Maybe it’s time for a break
before you start calculating what size turkey you need to buy for Thanksgiving or what to serve the teenage daughter who is vegetarian. How about a warm mustard or salt bath that along with soothing your jangled nerves can also provide health benefits?
From ancient times baths have been widely used for medical purposes as well as
a relaxation aid. The practice began in ancient Egypt and Babylon and was
later employed by the Greeks and of course the Romans in their bathhouses. In the Middle Ages it was recommended that a person visit bathhouses at least two or three times each week to maintain health.
The Healing Power of Mustard
Did you know mustard is one of the oldest botanical medicines? Two thousand years ago mustard plasters were used for treating chest congestion, a practice still used. Barber surgeons used solutions made with mustard as a surgical scrub long before the development of antiseptic washes. Mustard seeds contain two active chemical compounds that when added to water form an oil and the diluted oil acts as a counterirritant to reduce the number of pain messages transmitted to the brain through peripheral nerves. Mustard seeds ground into powder release a mustard oil that diluted with warm water can be used as a liniment to soothe painful, inflamed arthritic joints. Athletes use it for aching muscles.
Mustard baths are used to promote increased circulation and are especially good for treating headaches or stimulating the cardiovascular system. Along with mustard powder, these baths preparations often include essential oils like eucalyptus, pine, thyme, wintergreen or rosemary and are used to relieve sufferings from general aches and pains, back pain, and can even relieve symptoms of a cold. They’re also good for relieving tension, fatigue and insomnia.
Salt: Not Just For Cooking
Naomi Novotny of HBN member Salt
Works says “the combination of sea salts and water is the basis of many powerful therapeutic treatments. There are numerous types of water
therapies administered at spas, and sports therapy clinics use hydrotherapy baths to help patients recover from joint and muscle
injuries, continues Naomi. "Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, discovered the therapeutic qualities of seawater by noticing the healing affects it had on the injured hands of fisherman. The seawater not only restricted infection risks, but patients who followed treatments involving the use of seawater found that it also promoted pain relief,” says Naomi.
Naomi lists several reasons to consider a salt bath: 1) Detoxing: pulls toxins and heavy metals from our skin and body; 2)
Remineralizing: maintains healthy skin and soothes sore joints; 3)
Skin cell production: regulates skin cell production which is why many people with
psoriasis and eczema use salts as part of their treatment; 4) Relaxation: salt baths naturally soothe the body; 5)
Aromatherapy: salts are great carriers for essential oils. "A salt bath just feels good,” says Naomi.
Janae Chang of HBN member Raw Beauty says the health benefits from using Dead Sea salts “seem limitless. Dead Sea salt is well known for its ability to relieve aches and pains, reduce stiffness after exercise, to relax muscles and relieve skin problems."
Janae says there are also emotional benefits. “Soaking in a warm salt bath is a wonderful way to relieve stress,’ she says,” and using salts in your baths regularly creates radiant, healthy skin and having healthy skin makes you look and feel better.
Bath salts have been administered through spas and in health industries for years,” says Janae. “We offer salts to provide a more affordable way to “spa” at home.”
“Bath salts are great for exfoliating rough dry skin,” says Teresa Bacon of HBN member
We Make Perfect
Scents. “Try rubbing them on your problem areas such as your heels, knees and elbows. Dead Sea salts have been used since ancient times to help open the pores, to detoxify and drain the skin of impurities.”
Teresa makes her bath salts from scratch. “We make our bath salts from Epsom salts and add fragrance oils. Epsom salt contains magnesium and is anti-arthritic. Magnesium is one of the most important of essential oils.”
One of We Make Perfect
Scents most popular products is Fizzy Bath Salts. Teresa says “we make Fizzy Bath Salts by adding citric acid, baking soda and cornstarch to our bath salts which make them fizz when added to your bath water. These are some of the same ingredients in most of your bath bombs."
At Raw Beauty, Janae
tried several salts before settling on Dead Sea Salts for here salt-based
products. Says Janae, “They are our personal favorite. Dead Sea Salts have a beautiful off white color, which also
means they take on natural colors easily to create a rainbow of hues,” she
says.
If you're looking for an effective
way to tone down your stress level this holiday season, don't forget your baths.
Notice I said b-a-t-h-S -- plural. In today's busy society, we can forgive not
having a bath a day, but giving yourself the gift of a bath at least once a week
is a great way to remind yourself of just how special you are. You'll find lots
of bath salts recipes at MakeYourCosmetics.com,
including today's recipe for Ginger Mustard Bath.
